First Impressions

The importance of first  impressions in all relationships is oh so important.

Obviously you only get one chance to make a good first impression and there are some basics to this.

  1. Eye contact, you must do it.
  2. Firm handshake. (Don’t you just hate those limp handshakes?)
  3. Appearance.  How do you dress?
  4. Smile
  5. And of course, remember their name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Please remember their name and use it.

How often have you met someone and within 30 seconds forget their name?  Has it ever happened to you? Never?  It has happened to me and it is uncomfortable, embarrassing and it can cost you.  Remember the Seinfeld episode where he forgot his dates name?  It cost him the relationship.

Go to our facebook page where I will share with you my way of remembering someones name.  It works for me, and may work for you.  And if you have a good way to remember someone’s name, share with all of us, ok.  See you there.

Great tips for daily interaction with people.

    Another critical factor is self-belief.

If you have a healthy self confidence, are self-assured, then that energy can be directly transfered through your meeting with others.

It’s amazing how improving your own self cofidence can translate directly into some of the behaviors you list here – great post!

You hit the nail on the head Jeff. Dogs can smell fear in a person, and people can pick up a lack of self-confidence in oneself!

    Hi Tony,

I remember the first time I met you, I was in a lot of pain. You approached me with a warm smile of your face, and your handshake felt like a warm comforting blanket. I immediately thought “I am safe”.

This was a relief since in the previous week, I had had a bad experience with another chiropractor who I predicted would go bankrupt in six months due to his unethical practices. Yup, he went bankrupt, his building was torn down, and all that is left is a parking lot.

Funny thing is that I didn’t listen to my intuition – “Turn around and leave” – the first time I stepped into his office because I was in so much pain.

I was fortunate that a work colleague heard me crying in pain in my cubicle and told me wonderful things about you. Boy was she right!

First impressions are important, but it’s the substance that’s behind it which counts – experience, integrity, great personality. That’s you!

Not only do I have a great chiropractor for my aches and pains, but also a great life coach to guide me on achieving my dreams and inner peace.

Thanks for the kind words Francoise.
And I think you got a great point, after first impressions, “it is the substance that’s behind it which counts”.
    Tony
