Gluten Free Brownies, Oh What a Feeling!

I am proud to say that I’ve been gluten free since before Christmas.  And I haven’t missed wheat and wheat products at all.

The  other day, I was given a special “gluten free” brownie mix.  And so we made a batch.  Oh they looked good.  And they tasted even better.

Now I should know better, but I just went for them.  And the next day I had a headache like I haven’t had in a looooong time.  Checked the package, it says right there “gluten free”, but I obviously reacted to something else.   I guess that is my point, just because something is gluten free, or organic doesn’t mean that it is good for you.

With food allergies some obvious symptoms are like my instant headache.  But did you know that other allergy symptoms range from bloating and fatigue to depression and more?  It is true.

So that is another reason to come to our Weight Loss/Detox Workshop on Saturday May 14 in Ottawa.

Get informed, Get Smart (at least get smarter than I was).

    Hi Tony,

I’m thinking that you might be intolerant to chocolate or maybe the caffeine that’s in the chocolate.

I love milk chocolate, but get a terrible acid reflux reaction and killer stomach pains from real chocolate. I’m fine with cocoa. So, if I want a chocolate fix, I have to make sure that cakes and brownies are made with cocoa and not chocolate. I can’t even tolerate chocolate chips in cookies or ice cream. Sigh!

I rarely drink alcohol because it gives me terrible headaches. Yesterday, I tried a glass of a wonderful tasting beer which is half beer and half grapefruit juice with a reduced alcohol content of 2.5%. With that low an alcohol content, I wouldn’t have a headache, right? Wrong! Woke up with a headache this morning. So, I have just proven that I can’t tolerate even the slightest bit of alcohol. Sigh!

Oh well, I still have my green tea with jasmine to sip on all day at work. :)

There is/was something there I was allergic to, that is for sure. I can handle caffeine and chocolate in small amounts, but I could have overdone it. Regardless, “No brownies for me!” :-(
