Two women, identical twins, whose father was an abusive alcoholic were studied when they were in their adult years. One woman was an alcoholic. When asked why she drank like she did, her answer was that she had no choice, she was a result of her upbringing.
When her sister was interviewed, it turned out that she abstained from all alcohol. When she was asked why she stayed away from all alcohol, her answer was the same as her sisters, that she really had no choice because of her upbringing.
And that is the dilemma. Your environment does seem to have a role in who you are, but how is it possible that these two women had such opposite outcomes?

Stress levels have never been higher in recent years as they are now, not when
it comes to trying to survive in this financially uncertain climate. I know
some people who work 7 days a week, and 12 to 14 hour days is the norm.
The logic is that you can’t afford to slow down. The trouble is that if they
don’t slow down, their productivity slowly goes down and with time they end up doing less and less. Can’t afford to slow down, how about you can’t afford not to take a break. A holiday, a break, something to regain your composure.

Last May my daughter was married. I was just sorting through a pile of papers beside my desk and found her wedding programme; on the back there is a quote by Lord Byron:
“There is no instinct like that of the heart.”

Yes. Right. Very good. . .
Is there some back door I can slip through instead? Are all the doors to success locked with the organization key; there must be a service entrance?
I’m terrible at organizing. My efforts start off fine: I can make a to-do list, tidy up my closet, and arrange my business agenda for the upcoming week . . . but leave all this alone a few days and it soon reverts to chaos.
Why? Because life is fast. It’s full of changes, full of plans and things can flip themselves upside down without notice. Expect the unexpected . . .
