Have You Ever Been Stuck?

I was stuck in my life. Growing up in a small Alberta town, I knew that there was more for me to be and do, but I didn’t know how to reach it. The old me was comfortable where it was, and yet I knew that I couldn’t stay in this place. I knew that I had to get going, but there was a lot of inner resistance to moving on. And it wasn’t just inner resistance that was stopping me. There was family, my high school friends and the comfort of feeling “at home”.

You Act When You Get Uncomfortable

But I finally got uncomfortable enough where I was that I took a leap of faith and jumped out of my comfort zone. I set off, heading to Toronto, to find my future. With only a few hundred dollars in my pocket, I now wonder what I was thinking at the time. But the bottom line is that I am eternally grateful that I did get moving. I have long since lost contact with the friends that I had in high school, but I occasionally will hear something about someone that I used to know, way back when.

And what really gets to me is that some people I used to be close to never jumped, never took that leap. Instead, they played it safe and have grown through their adult years and are now getting ready to retire. And the whole while, they spent their entire lives in the same small prairie town, where it was comfortable. After all , they grew up here, went to school here, they knew everyone, they had their favorite haunts and, bottom line, it was safe.

But what did they miss? What adventures did they not have, and what regrets do they harbor?

The following video is taken from a live demonstration on this exact topic, recorded at the Ultimate Detox Workshop. As we say, Detox Your Body, Detox Your Mind.

Don’t Play It Safe, Jump!

There is still time and room to join us for the
next Ultimate Detox Workshop on September 25/2011 at the Kanata Holiday Inn (Ottawa, Ontario)

    Hi Tony,

With regard to getting unstuck, the analogy you gave me last week about “jumping off the safe and secure haywagon to go rolling in the meadow with the wild flowers” works well for me. As I focus on being less serious and having more fun with my life, I replay your analogy in my mind’s eye. It’s keeping me on track and my energy levels are soaring. :)

There are two ways to live life, playing it safe, and going for it. It seems that we are programmed at an early age on how to face life. I sure had a lot of friends growing up who all wanted to be teachers, because of the security, and summer holidays. What can I say.
