It’s May. We’re teetering on the edge of bathing suit season. There’s a good chance that everyone’s mind is on the shape of their bodies and how stunning they’ll look in that new bathing suit and sarong ensemble (purchased on impulse during last autumn’s sale). That’s assuming your into bathing suits and sarongs…maybe a Speedo or swimming trunks are more your taste.
The point is – exercise is on the brain. And why shouldn’t it be? The sun is stronger, the days are longer and this is the time to get motivated. If you haven’t managed to peel yourself off the couch yet, then maybe it’s time to draw back those curtains, put on Ricky Martin and let your body shake away the winter blahs.
That’s what I told myself a little while ago, knowing this blog was coming. So I recruited my son, who’s a personal trainer, and told him I needed a new exercise routine.
Fast forward one hour and twenty minutes: I’m bent over backwards with my toes reaching past my head and my body folded up like a stiff pretzel. JP is tough but encouraging, and I cling to his words as he counts down the position. It was a challenge and it was different. But also, it was so incredibly satisfying.
What a feeling! It’s wasn’t just about the workout – it went beyond the workout. It went right to me participating in something I’d never imagined my body achieving. I felt good about slowing down my rhythm, and about finding a balance between the stress of my muscles and the calm in my mind.
In that one hour work out I experienced moments of total satisfaction, everything felt ’right’ in that pretzel shaped position.
And that’s why this week I’m not only encouraging you to exercise, but I’m encouraging you to have a little fun. Try something new – there’s tons of exercising options with a variety of impact levels.
Here are just a few to get you started:
There are lots of way to enjoy living. Exercise makes the body feel good, and when the body feels good so does the rest of you. Getting out of the house and starting your new summer exercise routine is an excellent step on the path to success.
Have you had an ’aha!’ moment during exercise? What routine can you recommend that will help get people moving – and stay moving even after the summer?
We’d love to hear your thoughts, so please do share.
Thanks for coming by! Take Care!
Thanks Marcelle for those inspiring words. I agree that anyone can find a suitable type of exercise. In my life exercising is bringing joy, and a deeper connection with the univers.Life is movement….
