We have all heard how “bad things happen to good people” and although we would like to blame someone, or God perhaps, the present moment is rarely the end of the story. Very often, something bad happening in one’s life is a turning point and, although at the time it is just bad news, it is the “long view” that tells the story.
When you are in the middle of the whirlwind, it is next to impossible to stop and say, this is for a reason, something good will come out of this. Right now, I’m in my own personal whirlwind of “Bad” and this isn’t the first time. As many of you know, my daughter has cancer and is beginning chemo treatments. And all that is bad news, bad things happening to a very good person.
But I have been through “bad things” before in this life. My wife coming down with fibromyalgia 20 some years ago. At the time, it was just bad stuff happening and it was most unfair. A wonderful mom, great partner and doctor, she got sick. And it ended up changing our lives, completely turning them upside down as a matter of fact.
Because of her trials, we learned how to defeat this mysterious enemy and it resulted in a complete overhall in who we were as doctors and what we do. The “long view” makes this perfectly clear.
And so here we go again, and I have to have faith that their is a long view that makes all this meaningful and necessary. I know everyone has their own unique story, so why not share the good that comes out of bad times with the rest of us. It really does help everyone who knows about such stories. Thanks
