Working with people this week, there seemed to be a theme about moving forward, growth and reaching one’s goals. And that theme was the chaos that ensues when change happens. Chaos, let’s be real, isn’t something that is easy to live with. And yet the universe has chaos as part of our journey should we want to change and grow.
The majority of people don’t like chaos. In fact, I think I’m one of them. Like finger nails on a chalk board, chaos is uncomfortable. But that is the price that life demands if we want to change. It just is.
Unfortunately for this world of ours, most people will do anything to avoid chaos in their lives. Yes they want more, yes they want better BUT no thanks, they don’t want to change and the chaos that accompanies change.
And so they settle for the status quo. Life isn’t great but it’s not that bad. I have had people tell me that their life was “bla”, like food without spice. And they just went through the motions. But at least there wasn’t any chaos. And that’s the tragedy.
Life is a journey. It’s not the destination, or goal, that counts, but the journey. But if you have no goal, then you are just drifting and that is life’s real tragedy.
In the spring of this year, I set a goal to catch a 60″ fish this summer. Well, as I put my boat to bed for the winter, I didn’t reach my stated goal. But boy, did I have fun trying.
Thanks, Tony!
I am definitely one who does not like chaos… However, the Lord blessed me with 3 very active and interesting munchkins. Living in chaos is a journey, and never “bla”!
I recently heard on the new “Rosie O’Donnell Show”, another stay-at-home mom introduce herself as a “Chaos Manager”. I thought this was hilarious and so true! I really resonated with this new title for parents of young kids!
Thanks for the blog posting, and I hope that you are having a great day!
Thanks for the reply Jen. And yes, you have 3 really interesting and exciting little ones. Nice to hear that you have embraced the chaos!
There is always change going on at my work – new processes and policies to implement, and when they are finally done, you start all over again to renew what you have just completed… (Hum, the image of a hamster on a treadmill comes to my mind).
Yesterday, I attended a change management course, and when I looked back on the past seven years, I was amazed at how far the organization has come… (Yay, many successes over time really do add up to big changes).
The most inspiring quote I heard yesterday was, “If an organization’s external environment changes faster than its internal environment, the organization is doomed”. Wow, change is important for growth!
I love that quote. I’m ready to be a change champion for my organization.
On a side note, a fat obese hamster which I adopted and which kept running on his treadmill to no avail became this incredibly sleek and muscular hamster when I let him out of his cage, removed his barriers, and let him roam his room at will. He enjoyed his new freedom to seek out new horizons and experiences. He died at 3 years old, 50% longer than the average hamster which lives to 2 years. His name was Hammy.
Analogy: the Ultimate Wake Up workshop helps us focus on our inner environment, provides us with the tools to break our barriers, and gives us the freedom to explore our horizons.
I will definitely be participating at the November 2011 Ultimate WakeUp workshop… my fourth one.
A “change champion”, I like it. And isn’t it interesting about the hamster.
Chaos and Laughter
Funny thing happened last night after I wrote my comment above about change. My kitten, Zeus (“It’s all about meeeee!), got into the computer supplies cabinet. I woke up this morning to my husband laughing… really, big laughter.
When I entered the computer room, every square inch of it was covered with shredded paper towel… fluffy mounds of paper towel. It looked like a New Year’s Eve party… giant white confetti everywhere, very festive!
Zeus looked like an angel, eyes barely open, ready for a full day of sleep. I couldn’t help but laugh along with my husband. I love this orange kitten with the pink nose and extra long tail who thinks the world is his oyster.
It’s moments of imperfection which make life so interesting
Zeus is “living in the now”.
