No Fear

Just watched Ashleigh McIvor, Canada’s Gold Medalist in the women’s skicross being interviewed on CTV, the Olympic channel.

She said something very profound worth sharing.  I will have to paraphrase what she said, but I think I caught the drift.

The interviewer said, “is it true that you knew you were going to win before you started the gold medal race?”

No, she said, that’s not what happened.  I was standing at the gate, seeing the rain, the fog and such, but I didn’t concentrate on the results of what would happen if I lost.  I just said, I am at the
right place, this is for me.

That’s what sports psychologists want all their athletes to feel.

Now I know that isn’t exactly what she said, but it was something very close.  I truly believe that is the difference in so many events, the winners stop thinking of what will happen if they lose, and instead go for it.

Has anyone else had any experiences like this?

    When I feel I’m “in the zone”, it’s the result of lots of preparation, hard work and good coaching, whether it’s for an exam, a job interview or to enjoy my hobbies better. I know that I’m ready and I’m at the best level I can attain. I don’t worry about the other competitors or the outcome of the competition. I’m in the moment, focused on what I’m doing, thinking strategically and feeling from the heart.

    I can’t stress enough the need for a good coach to help me improve my skills, to increase my self confidence when self doubt occurs, and to keep me motivated.

    I currently have wonderful coaches who keep me on track:

    a) Dr. Tony Brunelle (my life coach);
    b) JP Brunelle (my Qi Gong coach and Personal Trainer); and
    c) Brendan Devlin (my career coach).

    They have made a world of difference for me… Life is good :)

    Yup, you still need to prepare, practice and a good coach is essential. Then you go for it. Thanks Francoise, good insights.
