Pretty powerful! It definitely reflects my perception of Canada. I love the many Rocky Mountain scenes and the Canada geese. For me, Canada is the best country in the world, I love living here, and I plan to visit as much of Canada as I can.

Thanks Tony for posting this video.

I just remembered that the first time I heard the Canadian anthem, I was 11 years old living in Barbados, attending an international show jumping event. A friend of mine who was an excellent rider was riding her horse representing Canada. I remember feeling a bit upset that she wasn’t riding for Barbados (she had dual citizenship). The Barbados police band (the greatest military band I ever heard) played the Canadian anthem… first time I heard it, and the music was amazing! I remembered thinking it was the most beautiful anthem I had heard. Who would have known that 4 years later, I would be living in Canada?

My friend didn’t win. But a handsome relative of mine whom I hadn’t met before and who stayed in our house for the duration of the event, came in second place for France, and gave me his rosette. He was riding a difficult horse named Desiree… a horse which I rode only once and which scared the beejeebees out of me. I was so proud of him… that he could make this grumpy horse look like an elegant winner! That day, I realized being a good rider took a special talent… it’s not just a good horse that makes a winning combination.

I am lucky to have lived in two beautiful, peaceful countries, Barbados and Canada.

Yup, I agree with you. I always get choked up when I hear the Canadian anthem. As a teenager and new arrival to Cananda, I used to stay up late at night to watch and listen to the national anthem on TV.

The words to Barbados’ anthem are pretty cool too. They include the words “native land”, “coast to coast”, and “loyal sons and daughters all”. It’s similar in sentiment to Canada’s anthem.

I also like the similarity of Barbados’ flag to Canada’s. It has three vertical rows: from left to right – blue for the sea, yellow for the sun, blue for the sky. In the middle of the yellow band, there is Neptune’s black trident which represents the bounty of the sea. Whenever I see flags fluttering, I always look to see if I can find Canada’s and Barbados’. I guess I’m sentimental.

I thought Barbaso’s anthem sounded a lot like O Canada. That is cool.
