We hear about it all the time, but when it hits close to home, it is a whole different story. And that is what is happening to our family.
It is something that you never thought would happen to you, and all of a sudden it is in your face. The only questions are why and how? You don’t smoke, you don’t even drink, you eat healthy foods, you exercise and still you get cancer. And that is the truly maddening part. How come? What the hell is happening, and why my daughter?
Is it genetic? I don’t see that as no one in my family or her mothers family has ever had cancer. Environmental causes? Who can say. Emotional stress? Perhaps.
And sometimes there just is no explanation. Sometimes it just is.
And then what do you do?
Eventually you do the only thing you can do and that is take the next step, that’s what you do. You go from day to day, you pull yourself together and say, “alright, I’ve just been dealt a terrible hand, but I am going to play it as best I can”.
That is what my daughter is doing and her strength and courage are so inspiring to me. She has started her own blog about her journey, it is very therapeutic for her and I believe for others reading it. Click Here to go to the beginning and follow along from there.
Check it out and if you know of anyone with cancer, share it with them. Knowing you are not alone is a good thing.
Tony
Tony – she appears to have the strength to get through this challenge, putting up a blog is a terrific way to continue to work through it. Her blog should do a great deal of good for others who are struggling as well.
With your help and her own internal strength – you guys already have the advantage!
I know many success stories with breast cancer, many people that have gone through this and years later are living proof that cancer can be put in its place.
Will follow your daughter’s blog…
Jeff
Thanks Jeff,
I appreciate your kind words and thoughts. Letting others know has been very therapeutic for all. Knowing you are not alone helps and yes, let’s kick ass!
Dear Tony and Marcelle, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I believe there is a reason for everything in life and as you have helped me to see, much of it is something we have been focussing on, on one level or another. She has two amazing parents and terrific brothers and she is surrounded with love. I wish for all of you much strength and courage and remember to breath, smile and believe…. xoxoxo Lise
Just as an aside note here, for your future reference, there is a test for breast changes that is much more gentle and much more revealing in terms of results than Mammogram. It is not harsh and nothing comes in contact with the skin. It is called “Breast Thermography” and operates on heat generated by the body. It is a test that can predict any kind of problem up to 10 years in advance. Good for all of us. Not covered by any insurance but is worth every penny! ($250.00).
Thermography is definitely another tool that can be used to help with early detection. We used to host their Ottawa clinic a few years ago. But I wouldn’t just rely on that alone. This is a link to their web site:

Even though thermography can be used for early detection (yes, I have tried it but nothing was found), if something is detected, you’ll then need to have a mammogram done to obtain more information (yes, I have had several mammograms over several years). After the mammogram, if something uncertain is detected, an ultrasound is used to see if it is cancer or just a water cyst. Thank god, I only have a water cyst, but my doctor insists I have a mammogram every 2 years since I am in a high risk category.
Hi Tony and Marcelle,
My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. What an incredible woman your daughter is, but that’s no surprise having two beautiful parents like yourselves. I went to her blog “Bumpy Boob’s”, and see that she sure has a sense of humour and as well an open heart and mind to her delicate and difficult journey.
I don’t have children that have been affected by cancer but both of my parents had cancer and they’re strength was admirable. If nothing else, we were all sent directly into the moment and it brought the “day at a time” phrase to the foreground of our lives. The treasure of each day for the simple pleasures.
I send you all a big cyber hug and much love,
Dawn
Thanks for your kind words and thoughts Dawn. Much appreciated, and yup, you have to appreciate the moment, this journey make’s you realize that.
Tony
